WHAT IS AN NFC-TAG?

NFC Tags are microchips with an antenna, that can contain informations and be read easly and quickly with a phone or a tablet 

equipped with NFC. (NFC stands for Near Field Communication and literally means proximity communication). NFC technology allows a secure wireless connectivity between two devices, with related data exchange.

The exchange takes place in total safety and quickly. In the case of smartphones, it is sufficient to bring them closer. Safety is given precisely by the proximity that the devices must maintain.

Physically they are tiny chips (integrated circuits) connected to an antenna. The chip has a unique code and a part of memory. The antenna allows the chip to interact with an NFC reader, such as an NFC smartphone. They do not require direct power. They are in fact activated by the magnetic field of the cell phone's NFC sensor. They do not need any direct power supply, because they are activated directly by the magnetic field of the NFC sensor of the mobile phone or of the device that reads them. A Tag can therefore remain glued to an object for years and continue to function without problems.All NFC Tags have a unique code, called UID (Unique ID), located in a part of the memory that is not editable. Through the UID, it is therefore possible to uniquely associate an NFC Tag to an instrument, previously entered by the luthier on the portal.

 

MEMORY

The available memory of NFC Tags varies according to the type of chip, but generally in the most popular ones it is less than 1 kilobyte. This may seem like a limitation, but in reality it only takes a few bytes to obtain surprising functions, also thanks to the NDEF standard, the data format for NFC encoded by the NFC Forum. For our use it is simply the transcription of a URL that refers to a web page of the MIR portal. The Tag, thus programmed, can be applied to any object, as well as inserted in the tool. With this function, the TAGs are similar to a QR Code, but are equipped with a greater data capacity, and do not require, at least for Android, any application to be read. Furthermore, the memory of an NFC Tag is divided into several blocks, which can be used for the development of more complex applications (for example, inventory).

 

WHAT FORMAT THEY HAVE AND WHAT THEY ARE MADE OF

They have the shape of diskettes with very contained dimensions (diskettes with a diameter starting from 10 mm and h.1,9 mm or even 120 μm ± 15μm), made of different materials (aluminum, nylon, PP), with an operating temperature from -35 ° C to 70 ° C

One of the problems common to all NFC tags is that they do not work if placed on a metal surface. For this, special tags have been created, called shielded (or anti-metal), which can be applied to the metal or any other conductor.

 

HOW AND WHERE CAN IT BE APPLIED?

Tags are stickers. They are equipped with an anti-corrosive glue that is particularly resistant to bad weather, humidity and sudden changes in temperature and are very easy to apply

 

BY WHO IS PROGRAMMED AND WHEN CAN IT BE INSERTED IN THE INSTRUMENT?

The TAG is programmed by MIR and then we will send the quantities already programmed to the assistants who have requested it at the time of registration on MIR. The luthier, when inserting the TAG in the instrument and consequently registering it on the portal, must scrupulously respect the chronology of the TAGs received. Automatically, once the instrument has been registered on the portal, its functionality can be immediately verified.For those who have requested it, the TAG can also be inserted (in label format) on the certificate that the luthier produces independently. The recommended position is under one of the photographs of the certificate accompanying the instrument. Obviously it will be our care to send a pair with the same indicative code as the one inserted in the instrument. Also in this case it is advisable to strictly observe the chronology indicated by us.

 

LOCK WITH PASSWORD

The Tag is also called "locked" and can no longer be overwritten. It is locked with a password and can only be reprogrammed by those who know the password.

 

How can I activate / deactivate NFC on my mobile phone?

Normally all mobile phones have NFC enabled by default. Otherwise a few simple steps are enough

Android: Settings> Wireless and Networks> (More)> NFC

Windows Phone: App list> Settings> Touch and share> NFC sharing

Huawei: settings> device connection> NFC> ON

IPhone: Attention NFC only works with an iPhone 7 or newer. Settings> Control Center> Additional Controls> NFC
